THE DANDIE TARTAN

On Monday February 23rd 2015, Duke Richard of Buccleuch received some very unusual guests at Bowhill,  50 rare and endangered Dandie Dinmont Terriers and 75 breed enthusiasts from 8 different nations had travelled to the Borders for three days to celebrate a very special occasion, the 200th anniversary of the publication of Sir Walter Scott’s “Guy Mannering”, the book which gave the breed its distinctive name.
The breed has very strong historical links with the Scott Clan and during the visit, Duke Richard (who is also chief of Clan Scott) gave his blessing for the Dandie Dinmont Terrier to wear the Walter Scott (Private) Black and White Tartan as the breeds “official” tartan, making the Dandie Dinmont the only breed of dog to have its very own, Clan Chief approved tartan.
A few hours later, when the group visited another historic Selkirk mansion, The Haining, where Scotch Tweed, became the first company to supply the correct Scott Tartan to Dandie owners and enthusiasts and they remain the sole recommended supplier.  The tartan and products they supply are of the highest quality, made in Selkirk, from 100% Scottish wool.   Scotch Tweed are based in Selkirk, an area which has deep historical connections with the breed.
